Myra L Green

November 9, 1949 — December 3, 2025

Livingston, Texas

Myra Lee Green, lovingly known as “Granny,” was born on November 9, 1949, in Livingston, Texas, to L.S. and Maurine Green, who both preceded her in death. On December 3, 2025, Myra peacefully departed this life, leaving behind a legacy rooted in love, warmth, family, and unforgettable home-cooked meals.

Myra graduated from Dunbar High School in 1968. In 1977, she boldly set out for New York City, where she began a new journey working as a telephone operator for Bell Atlantic, a major telecommunications company. After several years in New York, Texas called her back home, and she found her true passion in the kitchen. Myra worked as a cook at Cassidy’s Café, where her dishes quickly became favorites among regulars and visitors alike. Her famous cream pies and her comforting chicken and dumplings were so beloved that many said no one could make them quite like Myra.

In 2002, Myra joined her sister Jettie in opening J.D.’s Diner, a cherished community staple where people came from near and far just to taste her country-style cuisine. The diner became a gathering place filled with good food, good company, and the unmistakable flavor of Myra’s love for cooking. After retiring, she continued to share her gift through catering, blessingcountless events and family gatherings . Myra also enjoyed her weekly bingo outings, where she found laughter, excitement, and fellowship.

Beyond her talents in the kitchen, Myra was known for her tremendous heart. She opened her home to anyone in need—whether they needed a meal, a place to stay, or simply a comforting presence. Her home was a safe haven, filled with love, acceptance, and the smell of something delicious on the stove. To many, she was more than a friend or neighbor; she was family.

Myra was preceded in death by her parents, L.S. and Maurine Green; her sister, Dorothy Green; and her daughter, Angel Green.

She leaves to cherish her memory two devoted sons: Roy Garner III (Tashara) and Troy Garner (LaSandra); her loving siblings: Faye Johnson, Ellis Green, Bobbie Green, Jettie DeWalt, Ramona Rains, and Bruce Green; her precious grandchildren: Zaihnyuh Garner, Zaihyonna Garner, Zaihmerra Garner, Allie Jenkins, Zaylon Bogany, Nevaeh Garner, Ziekus Garner, Troy Garner Jr., Taleiyah Garner, Paris Garner, Roy Garner Jr., Traniyah Garner, and Za’Quan Garner; and her great-grandchild, Ayla Bogany. She also leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, friends, and a special “Soda Pop” childhood friend, Betty Moore and a special daughter, Nikki Robinson.

Myra Lee “Granny” Green will be remembered for her giving heart, her joyful spirit, and the meals that brought comfort and togetherness to so many. Her legacy of love and kindness will live on in every life she touched. She will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
