Minnie Womack

Minnie Lee “Bunk” Womack, was born July 16, 1918, the third child to Henry and Lilly Ballard. Minnie grew up and attended school in Point Blank, Texas. She accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized by the late Rev. Fad Ellis. She also served under the leadership of the late Rev. Jimmy Bryant at St. Marion Baptist Church.

March 25, 1934, Minnie Lee Ballard married the love of her life and her lifelong companion, Andrew “Buddy” Womack.  God blessed them with 6 children. Minnie Lee spent most of her time at church, taking care of her family, and working on the farm. In 1949, the family moved from San Jacinto County to Blanchard, Texas, in Polk County. In 1952, the couple managed to save enough money to build a 2-bedroom home. Over the years, they continued to expand the home for their children, grand, great-grand and great-great grandchildren. Many unforgettable memories were made with Pawpaw and MaMinnie, and words cannot express the love and laughter that we ALL experienced in that home. The family dinners, the outside fish fries, and the garden was a gathering place for family and friends where ALL were welcomed.  One of the fondest memories was Pawpaw and MaMinnie sitting on the porch waving at every car that passed by.

Minnie Lee worked many domestic jobs during the day but her true love was working in the garden.  With her husband beside her, they harvested crops and gathered eggs.  Family and friends received blessings such as greens, okra, peas and eggs from their labor of love.

Mother Minnie Lee Womack loved the Lord!  She was a faithful member for many years under the leadership of the late A. R. Smith, the late Bishop Scales, and the late Manuel Dunham.   She served as mother of the church at Smith Memorial Church of God in Christ.  In 2012, Mother Womack relocated to Fellowship COGIC to join her husband under the leadership of L.C. Youngblood. She remained a faithful member until her relocation to Houston.  Mother Womack was a warrior for the Lord.  She loved God and loved to give him praise.  She loved the gospel singer Lee Williams and attended many of his concerts. One of her favorite songs was “I believe I’ll run on” to see what the end gonna be”.  She was blessed with a good long life and she lived it to the fullest.  She served the Lord to the very end on this side, to forever praise Him in eternity. She had a strong love for family and never met a stranger. She left us with so many sweet memories to cherish.

Preceding her in death were her parents, god-parents Henry and Eliza Jane Templeton, her husband Andrew Womack of 80 years, sisters, Katherine DeBerry and Vanilla Hill, brother, U.L. Churchill, daughters, Katherine Johnson and Freddie Mae McCormick, son, Andrew B. Womack, and grandson, KenShawn Davis.

Left in God’s care to cherish her memory; daughters, Eliza J. Adair and Lois Dirden; a son, Charles Womack (Dorothy) and godson, Jeremy Youngblood; 23 grandchildren, 61 great-grandchildren, 37 great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends
