Ethel Jacobs
On August 12, 1935, a baby girl, Ethel Marie Pickens was born to K.C. and Howard Pickens. Ethel was born and raised in Onalaska, Texas, where she received her formal education at Dunbar High School. Throughout her journey at Dunbar High School, she was inducted in the basketball Hall of Fame and was later awarded. As her journey continued after high school, she moved to California with her aunt Alana and Holmer Webb, where she obtained her nursing degree. Later she met William Jacobs whom she had been married to for 38 years.
Ethel accepted Christ at an early age at Rose Hill Primitive Baptist Church and later became one of the founding members of Solid Rock Baptist Church in Houston, Texas under pastor Rev. Driver. She remained a faithful member at Solid Rock Baptist Church until she transitioned back to Rose Hill Primitive Baptist Church under Pastor Foreman.
On Sunday, August 1, 2021, Ethel gained her wings after fighting a good fight and she is now resting in heaven. Ethel was preceded in death by her father, Howard Pickens, mother, K.C. Hines-Pickens, Husband, William Jacobs, daughter, Shirley Jacobs, brother, Howard Pickens Jr., brother, Almer C. Pickens, brother, Frank Pickens, sister, Elma Chase Pickens, sister, Nola Mae Pickens, and niece, Alfrida Marshall.
Ethel leaves to cherish her homegoing: 2 sons, Jessie Claybon (Gwen) Humble, Tx, Roshard Jacobs, Houston, Tx, 4 daughter’s, Anna Plattenburg, Houston, Tx, daughter, Sheila Rene Pickens Ware (John Ware), Humble, TX, daughter, Dellaree Jacobs Hogan (Greg Hogan) Humble, TX, daughter, Cynthia Jacobs, Houston, Tx. brother, Daniel Pickens, of Onalaska, Tx.
