Alonzo “Butch” Petties

Funeral Services for Mr. Alonzo “Butch” Petties, 72, of Leggett, Texas will be held Saturday, May 4, 2019 at 11 am. At the Livingston Church of God In Christ with Elder Lang Prescott III officiating. Interment will follow at Lilly Island Cemetery in Camden, Texas. “Butch” was born on January 19, 1947 to parents Mr. Walter and Johnny Lee Petties in Camden, Texas, and he passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones April 24, 2019 in Leggett, Texas. He grew up in Camden, Texas, and attended public schools and graduated from Chester High School.
He accepted Christ at a young age at Lilly Island Missionary Baptist Church where he played Santa Clause faithfully. Later in life, he united with Livingston Church of God In Christ under the leadership of Bishop Rayford A. Chimney, where he remained a member until his demise.
On December 24, 1970 he married the love of his life, Mrs. Olivet Criswell Petties for 48 Blessed years. He was a devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather, and great grandfather who provided well and worked hard to provide for his household. Butch devoted his time and was known for his dedication to Polk County Road and Bridge for more than 38 plus years as a Heavy Equipment Operator until his health began to fail. Butch was also a faithful member of the Camden Trailblazers who loved riding horses, pinning cows and anything incorporating animals. After the passing of the late Mr. LA Prescott, Butch helped his family at Duncan Funeral Home as a gravedigger for many years also until his health declined.
He is preceded in death by: Parents: Walter and Johnny Lee Petties; Granddaughter: Olivian Petties Phlegm; Brothers: Sammy Petties, Milton Petties, Christopher Petties; Sister: Gwendolyn Petties Lyons; Father-In-Law: Oliver “Mae” Criswell; Mother-In-Law: Maseline Criswell; Brothers-In-Law: Alton Simpson, and Clyde Billy Simpson.
He leaves to cherish his wonderful memories: His wife of 48 years: Olivet Petties; Sons: Gerald Petties, Jaceon Petties, Terry Smith all of Livingston, TX; Daughters: LaTina Petties, Renada Petties, Jennifer Petties, Cheri Smith all of Livingston, TX; Grand-Children: Shanice Hulett, of Diboll, TX, Tiara Petties, Oliver Phlegm both of Livingston, TX; Great-Grandchildren: Zy’asia Wyatt, Zamorian Petties-Hill, Darrell Lane Jr., Jenesis Lane, Nialah Rouse, Josias Phillips; Sisters: Cora Penrice (Zethery), of Camden, TX, Mary Petties of Houston, TX, Patricia Brown of Corrigan, TX; Special Sisters-In-Law: Tina Johnson, Ollie Stephens (Melvin), Shirley Criswell, Kathy Prescott, Angela Figgs (Ralph), Barbie Hunt all of Livingston, TX; Brother-In-Law: Gary Criswell of Livingston, TX; Special Nephews and Niece: Lang Prescott (Jessica) Tulsa, OK, Terrance Prescott of Humble, TX, Brandon Prescott of Livingston, TX, Iva Prescott of Livingston, TX; Best Friend/Brother: Mr. Leon Jefferson of Houston, TX; Special Son: LG Dove “Po Boy” of Livingston, TX; Special Companions: Crypto, Zeus, and Pebbles; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

While growing up in the BOYKIN Settlement. I recall all the Homecoming Butch would come to with his brothers. My parents Henry and Clara Boykin always cared deeply for the Petties. My condolences and prayers going out to your family Rest well Mr. Butch from the Boykin Family.

My brother-in-lawof 48 years (Slim Shady) has finished the last leg of his relay we call life. He's ran his race and finished his course. We loved him and will miss his presence. We ask always that God help us accept what he allow and continue to give our family strength and endurance for weathered storms and those to come.
